Good God, this was awful. I believe I missed last year, but the year before was fantastic. It was spread over both sides of the harbor, there were wine slushies along with the beer, there was secondary entertainment on the other side of the harbor.

This time, there was probably less than 10 vendors serving wings. No Dino BBQ, no Limp Lizard, no wine slushies, 5 dollars for either a coors light or blue light in a can. The only place that had even acceptable wings was Shifty's.

My friend was home from NYC for the weekend and I brought her there. Holy crap, what a serious disappointment. I'm bummed man... I mean... how do you have a bad time at a CHICKEN WING FESTIVAL? Somehow, I managed it.

a shame. i wasn't able to make it, but from the sounds of it, it doesn't look like i missed all too much.

i blame lack of advertising and promoting (as is the case with most syracuse events). does anybody even know who won? i can't find out anything online.

I don't know for sure, but I would have to guess that Shifty's won. There was literally no other even remotely good vendor there.

For the record, I do like OIP wings (especially the Caribbean Jerk and Mango Habanero), but they were small and super well done at the festival. So no, they sucked. Shifty's would've won be default.

By the way, I'd read your review on Shifty's and remembered that you said they seemed to be less hot than you'd anticipated. Me, being someone who likes a good amount of heat, decided to go right for the F-Bomb wings. I've never eaten a live grenade before, but I would imagine its pretty similar to that. I blame you.

haha. oh man. i apologize. i just talked to a few people a couple of days ago that were at this festival who tried the f-bomb sauce and said it was insane. one of the guys put a dab of the sauce on his finger and tried it and said he'd never tasted anything that hot before.

It didn't look like a normal "hot sauce." It was thicker, darker, kind of chunky and full of chili seeds. Honestly, it looked like someone had put a whole bunch of various peppers into a processor with a bit of oil, pureed it all, then cast some sort of dark enchantment and bound it with the souls of a hundred million murdered children. And then coated the chicken wings in it.

Yep, that's essentially what it tasted like.

magic spells, eh? at the risk of burning my face off, i'm still intrigued!
